The opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Design and Technology Department for a skilled, enthusiastic, and collaborative professional to join the team at Radford College. We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative individual who is passionate about technology and supporting staff and students in a dynamic learning environment.

The position is a full-time role (1.0 FTE). The College may consider appointing two part-time employees, subject to operational requirements and candidate suitability.

About the role

As the Design and Technology Assistant, you will support the smooth and safe operation of the College’s Design and Technology Department. Working closely with teachers and students, you will help prepare materials and equipment for practical lessons, maintain workshop tools and machinery, and assist with ordering and stock management.

This hands-on role suits someone with strong organisational and technical skills who enjoys practical, varied work. You’ll take pride in maintaining safe, well-equipped learning spaces and contributing to an engaging environment that supports creativity, innovation, and collaboration.

About you

You will have relevant trade qualifications or practical workshop experience, ideally within a school or technology-based environment. You bring a hands-on, solutions-focused approach and take pride in maintaining safe, well-organised, and functional learning spaces.

You are a reliable and proactive team member who can also work independently, with strong attention to detail and sound knowledge of workshop tools, equipment, and digital design technologies. Your excellent organisational skills, initiative, and ability to build positive relationships with staff and students will help you thrive in this dynamic and collaborative environment.

Candidates must:

  • Have a sound knowledge of safe use, care and maintenance of woodworking machinery, tools and digital design technologies
  • Have strong organisational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage materials, equipment and stock effectively
  • Exhibit a collaborative approach with the ability to work independently when required and an ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Be energetic, enthusiastic and demonstrate a willingness to grow through the sharing of best practice and professional experience
  • Commit to the safeguarding and promotion of student welfare
  • Be reliable and punctual

Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualifications or workshop experience desirable, particularly Woodwork and a technology environment – preferably within an educational setting.
  • Sound knowledge of safe use and maintenance of Woodwork machines and digital design tools
  • Experience in workshop practices is desirable
  • First Aid qualifications
