The opportunity
The Assistant Head of Religious Education supports the Head of Religious Education in leading teaching and learning within the RE faculty through the planning, design, and implementation of a creative and contemporary Stages 4-6 curriculum. It focuses on improving student outcomes, mentoring teachers, ensuring NESA compliance, and contributing positively to the collaborative culture of the Heads of Department team. Above all, the role seeks to nurture the gifts and talents of each student, ensuring that Catholic practices and Mercy Values are embedded in all aspects of school life.
What are we looking for?
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Religious Education and English, with current NESA accreditation to teach courses in NSW.
- Demonstrated experience teaching Religious Education and English across Stages 4-6, in alignment with relevant curriculum and assessment requirements.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with the Head of Department and colleagues to lead and support teaching and learning initiatives within the faculty.
- Experience mentoring and supporting teachers to enhance professional growth and classroom practice.
- Demonstrated capacity to critically reflect on and adapt teaching practice to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Ability to foster a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes student achievement and wellbeing.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, organisational, administrative, and collaborative skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the evolving teaching and learning needs of the College.
- A clear commitment to the Catholic mission and Mercy values of the College, with a willingness to actively participate in its faith life and community initiatives.
- Willingness to contribute to the co-curricular life of the College (with no regular weekend sporting commitments).
- Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance.
