Job Description

Job Summary

The Teacher is responsible for organising and implementing an engaging instructional program in accordance with the VCAA senior school VPC and/or VCE-VM curriculum.

The primary focus of the Teacher is on planning, preparation and teaching programs to achieve specific student outcomes along with participating in the development and implementation of Y2IC policies and programs.

All Teachers are expected to teach a range of students with varying academic abilities and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs and consistently implementing Y2IC restorative practices to education. This will include developing and in some cases leading, flexible, innovative and hands-on applied learning delivery, to meet both the cognitive and social emotional needs of students. Teachers will use student data to inform teaching approaches which enable differentiated individualised teaching and learning to improve student engagement and outcomes.

Key Accountabilities

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment for Y2IC students that encourages student participation, engagement and address disruptive behaviours
  • Facilitate restorative practices with students and staff including the use of affective statements/questions, circle structures, formal conferencing and reintegration of identified students following behaviour incidents
  • Keep accurate attendance and assessment records for all students throughout the year and respond internally to College communications in a timely manner
  • Develop teaching and learning activities that are engaging for a diverse range of learning styles and incorporate differentiated strategies to meet the specific learning needs of students
  • Facilitate Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) data collation and record keeping as required
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to keep abreast of industry changes, broaden knowledge and improve practice
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students academic and behavioural progress
  • Participate in meetings/networks (internal and external) as required

Curriculum Development, Delivery and Assessment

  • In consultation with the Curriculum Leader, develop and deliver an engaging quality applied learning senior school curriculum that meets VCAA study design requirements and is inclusive of Unit Planners, Lesson Plans and assessments
  • Apply a range of adjustments that promote engagement, build rapport and develop social emotional competencies
  • Monitor the progress of students, provide mid/end of year reporting within nominated timeframes and flag when there is a concern regarding the wellbeing of a student
  • Supply volunteers or education support staff with an outline of the curriculum for the day
  • Participate and provide the required documentation for the VCAA Quality Assurance process within designated timeline

Professional Standards

  • Maintain VIT registration by actively seeking, undertaking and documenting professional learning activities
  • Understand and apply the key principles and requirements as outlined in Y2IC policies and VIT Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrate professional standards as per The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous review, improvement of student learning outcomes and achievement aligned to Y2IC Strategic Plan outcomes
  • Maintain a high level of interpersonal communication skills at all times actively demonstrating courtesy, tolerance and professionalism in all interactions.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Satisfactory screening of: Teacher qualifications, Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Registration, the right to work in Australia
  • Demonstrated successful experience in working with young people, LGBTQI+ young people and young people from diverse cultural backgrounds who have barriers to education
  • Demonstrated successful experience in the delivery of applied learning curriculum
  • Effective classroom management skills in a context of restorative practice and with students who exhibit multiple barriers to education
  • Demonstrated capacity to work flexibility and have the ability to manage competing demands
  • Ability to work autonomously and part of a team
  • Willingness to undertake professional development and to pursue continuous improvement

  • Ensure that your interactions with children and young people are positive and safe
  • Provide adequate care and supervision of young people in your charge
  • Act as a positive role model for children and young people
  • Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse
  • Maintain valid ‘working with children’ documentation via VIT registration
  • Report to the Principal any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people
