The town of Biloela can be found 120 kilometres inland from the port city of Gladstone. The quintessential rural town, Biloela is supported by a wide range of industries including grazing, cropping and mining. Even though it retains the charms of a country town Biloela has a bustling annual calendar of festivals and events.
For those seeking adventure the town is just a 20-minute drive from the stunning Kroombit Tops National Park. Take a relaxing bushwalk and take in the scenery or set up a spot at one of the three camping areas. The park is the only known home to the endangered Kroombit Tinkerfrog which is accompanied by an array of other native flora and fauna. You can also walk amongst the remains of a WWII Liberator bomber that crashed at Kroombit Tops in 1945. The plane remained hidden in the forest until it was discovered nearly 50 years later.
A popular activity with locals is to spend the day at the Callide Dam. The Dam provides all the amenities you would need for a fun filled day of camping, fishing, kayaking, swimming and boating. You can also visit Mount Scoria Conservation Park, which is home to Mount Scoria, a mountain that was once an active volcano. The Park contains an array of unusual and impressive basalt. These formed as the volcano's lava cooled to form distinct pillars that you can see while enjoying a stroll along the bushwalking track.
