Having commenced in 2017 with 86 students across Kindergarten to Year 6, St Luke’s at Marsden Park is a next generation learning community within the Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD). As a ‘next generation Catholic Learning Community’ we are designing and establishing the ‘new normal’ for preschool to post school learning in an environment characterised by a flexible, stage based curriculum which nurtures and grows faith-filled, curious children to become creative contributors and innovative problem solvers for a changing world. In 2026 we will enrol 1800+ students from Kindergarten to Year 12 in addition to 77 children per day in our long day centre.

Position Purpose

The  Advisory Teacher supports students in achieving their academic potential by fostering independence, goal orientation, and effective study habits. This role combines the supervision of study periods with purposeful learning conversations that build students’ capacity to set goals, monitor progress, and take responsibility for their learning.

The position is designed to strengthen St Luke’s commitment to empowering students to become self-directed, aspirational learners who are prepared for success in senior schooling and post-school pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise study sessions to create a productive, focused, and accountable learning environment.
  • Conduct learning conversations with students to:
    • Set personalised ATAR targets and academic goals.
    • Analyse study habits and develop effective study routines.
    • Monitor engagement, progress and performance data.
    • Support and challenge students to take ownership of their learning.
  • Facilitate small-group and whole-cohort workshops on topics such as study skills, time management, writing techniques, exam techniques, and motivation.
  • Support students with assessment help
  • Collaborate with the Student Futures Leader to track student progress and implement intervention strategies where necessary.
  • Work closely with the Partnerships and Pathways Coordinator to connect students with relevant opportunities, experiences, and external supports.
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers to share strategies for supporting students’ academic growth and wellbeing.
  • Support the Student Futures Leader in liaising with external partners, universities, or industry connections to broaden students’ awareness of pathways and post-school options.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the school’s Student Futures program and excellence in teaching and learning through use of data, reflection, evaluation, and innovation.

Selection Criteria

  • Registered teacher with Proficient Teacher accreditation through NESA.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong mentoring relationships with students.
  • Deep understanding of senior secondary education, ATAR requirements, and effective study strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Proven capacity to facilitate group learning experiences and lead workshops.
  • Commitment to the values and mission of Catholic Education

As part of the interview process you may be asked to model a learning conversation with a student and analyse student data.

Qualifications and accreditations:

  • Compliance with NSW Child Protection Legislation - Working with Children Check clearance
  • Eligibility to teach in NSW according to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA)
  • Tertiary Qualification (minimum 4-year degree, or 75% complete)
  • Statement of Service
