The Schools Officer (Grounds and Facilities) at Centenary State High School plays a key role in supporting the efficient operation and presentation of the school environment.
Reporting directly to the Business Manager, this role is responsible for maintaining the school’s grounds and facilities to a high standard.
The successful applicant will carry out a range of routine maintenance and operational tasks, working independently for standard duties and under supervision for non-routine activities.
All tasks will be performed in accordance with established procedures and expectations.

Your Opportunity
As the Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities you will contribute to the efficient and effective operation and environment of the school by providing a high level of grounds and facilities to the Principal, Business Manager or nominated delegate.
You will perform a range of activities to ensure that the school is maintained to a high standard; follow set instructions; and have independence to perform a variety of day-to-day services that are routine in nature. However, the role receives regular supervision when undertaking duties that are non-routine in nature.
As the Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities you will not be required to perform any task or repairs that would normally require the services of a qualified tradesperson.
The position reports directly to the Principal, Business Manager or nominated delegate.
Your Responsibilities
As the Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain lawns, gardens, and school ovals by mowing, weeding, planting, watering, and fertilising.
- Prepare and maintain outdoor sporting facilities such as courts, fields, and cricket pitches.
- Set up and pack down spaces for school events, exams, assemblies, and other activities.
- Carry out minor repairs and maintenance of furniture, equipment, and fixtures (excluding tasks requiring a qualified tradesperson).
- Perform immediate cleaning tasks when cleaners are not rostered, such as cleaning spills or addressing hygiene issues.
- Clear drains and gutters, and support waste collection and safe rubbish disposal.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements, including hazard reporting and safe use of equipment and chemicals.
- Operate and maintain grounds care equipment, including mowers, brush cutters, and tractors, in accordance with service manuals.
- Liaise with school staff, contractors, and service providers regarding facilities maintenance and lost property.
- Assist with general school duties, including deliveries, receipting of supplies, stocktaking, and basic administrative tasks.
