The Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader in schools plays a key role in fostering a proactive approach to mental health and wellbeing.
Their responsibilities include:
- Building School Capability: Enhance the school’s ability to identify, promote, and prevent mental health issues.
- Support Staff: Assist teachers and staff in identifying and supporting students with mental health needs.
- Referral Pathways: Establish and manage clear referral processes for students requiring further assessment or intervention.
- Program Implementation: Implement context-appropriate programs and initiatives based on the school’s needs.
- Collaboration: Work with school leadership and wellbeing teams to embed mental health strategies into teaching and learning.
- Training and Development: Attend mandatory training and participate in ongoing professional development to improve mental health literacy.
- External Coordination: Coordinate with regional staff, community services, and families to provide targeted support for students.
- Wellbeing Team Contribution: Contribute to the school’s existing wellbeing initiatives and understand relevant sector roles and funding.
Importantly, this role is not clinical and does not involve direct intervention but focuses on building capacity and creating effective referral pathways.
While this position is advertised as a 0.4 FTE, there is a possibility that you could take on a dual school role at an 0.80 FTE.
