Position Information

James Ruse Agricultural High School, located in Carlingford in north-west Sydney, is a coeducational, academically selective high school with an enrolment of 860 students, including 97% from a non-English speaking background. The school aims to provide highly gifted students with learning driven by curiosity and challenge. Our staff help our students develop skills, knowledge and perspectives with an emphasis on collaboration, self-direction and pedagogy that inspires lifelong learning. Our broad curriculum, including an accelerated study of Agriculture for all students from Years 7-10, and a plethora of varied co-curricular experiences helps to develop students into active citizens who will make positive contributions to the world. General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. Proven ability to lead, develop and evaluate proactive, student-centred wellbeing strategies, and to effectively embed these across the whole school community while supporting the wellbeing, engagement and achievement of High Potential and Gifted (HPG) learners.
  2. Capability to use data to inform wellbeing planning and embed the school’s strategic directions for proactive support.
  3. Demonstrated skill and leadership in managing complex student needs, collaborating with wellbeing staff, parents, families and external agencies to promote inclusion and equity outcomes for students.
  4. Demonstrated experience or capacity to coordinate a Wellbeing Team including Year Advisers, Student Support Officer, School Counsellors, and Student Learning and Support Officers to deliver integrated student support services.
