Position Information

John Edmondson High School, with an enrolment of approximately 1050 students, including 56% of students from a non-English speaking background and 28 Aboriginal students, is a dynamic Year 7 - 12 comprehensive co-educational high school. The school serves a community in South-West Sydney in the Glenfield area that includes a wide range of families from diverse cultural and socio-economic groups living in suburban, as well as semi-rural environments. The school has an extensive curriculum and promotes academic, sporting and leadership development and achievement. Innovative features include extensive technological resources and numerous opportunities for student enrichment. Strong links with partner Primary Schools as well as external providers are being extended to further develop student opportunities for learning and success. Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position.

In addition to the general criteria;

  1. Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with disability, including autism and mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, with the proven capacity to design and implement individualised programs that enhance engagement, learning, and wellbeing.
  2. Proven ability to establish and lead a Special Education Support Unit, including creating and managing new classes, developing inclusive practices, and supporting a collaborative team to improve outcomes for students with diverse learning needs.
  3. Proven ability to build strong, trusting relationships and partnerships with students, families, allied health professionals, external agencies, and staff to deliver coordinated, individualised support, effective transition planning, and whole-school approaches that promote inclusion and wellbeing.
  4. Demonstrated expertise in leading evidence-based, differentiated programs, applying the NSW curriculum to meet diverse needs, and guiding staff to refine practice in line with school priorities and continuous improvement.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
