Position Information

Hawkesbury High School is a comprehensive, co-educational high school, located in a semi-rural setting in the Hawkesbury District in Northwest Metropolitan Sydney. The school has 470 students in Years 7 – 12, including 11% Aboriginal students. From 2026, the school community will include a three classroom Support Unit The school has strong connections with the local community and is supported by a proactive and engaged parent body. The school has a strong focus on academic, vocational and wellbeing programs and it enjoys a strong and sustainable learning partnership with local primary schools. The successful applicant will work with an enthusiastic executive team, supportive staff and an engaged learning community that supports the social and academic development of all students.

General Selection Criteria
  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

Approval to teach special education and experience in teaching students with complex learning and support needs.

Proven ability to lead faculty and whole school differentiation of the curriculum, promoting engagement and learning through personalised learning and support plans, and strong literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing programs.

Proven capacity and significant experience in fostering positive relationships with students, their families and outside agencies to collaborate, develop and implement strategies for individualised support, transition, behaviour and wellbeing of students with additional learning needs.

Demonstrated leadership skills in managing a dynamic faculty of teaching and non-teaching staff to promote a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration.

Conditions

A Relocation Support Payment of $5,000 up to $8,000 will be available for eligible applicants.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
