We are seeking a permanent, full-time Head of PDHPE P-12 to join our team. This role reports to the Director of Curriculum and Learning, and will commence in Term 1 2026.

Ascham is an inclusive, day and boarding school for girls in years P to 12. It provides a strong academic program within a warm and welcoming environment. Since its foundation in 1886 also, Ascham has educated girls who develop into confident, independent, compassionate young women.

At Ascham, teaching and learning for students in years 7 to 12 is based on the unique framework of The Dalton Plan. Since its introduction to Ascham in 1922, this has set the School apart as a unique and widely admired approach to girls’ education; and in terms of its ability to help them make decisions, build confidence, and develop a strong sense of responsibility and self-management.

About this Role

We are seeking an inspirational educator and outstanding PDHPE teacher to lead our highly experienced PDHPE faculty and for P-12 students. This is a full-time permanent role, commencing in Term 1, 2026.

What You Need to Do to Succeed

  • Contribute meaningfully to the School curriculum by writing, implementing and evaluating teaching programs
  • Implement emerging PDHPE curriculum developments at School, state and national levels
  • Drive student health, safety, wellbeing and physical activity
  • Oversee the academic needs and progress of individual students and groups, and report on their progress
  • Mentor, lead and support a team of PDHPE teachers, and encourage them to participate in the life of the School
  • Advocate for departmental / individual needs, while also considering the best interests of the School
  • Conduct regular team meetings to relay information from the School Executive, and address departmental concerns
  • Conduct annual teacher Professional Development Reviews, and their department’s Dalton Review
  • Manage their department’s budget and resources, including staff allocations / absences
  • Maintain records including programs, marks, assessments and class lists
  • Manage parent interactions, escalated complaints or investigations as required.

What You Bring

  • Tertiary / teaching qualifications, with a major in PDHPE and accreditation with NESA
  • Ability to be a dynamic and inspiring educator who can lead a highly experienced PDHPE department
  • Ability to act as a mentor / role model to Senior and Junior School PDHPE teachers
  • Appreciation of young people and their learning needs,
  • Ability to keep up to date with pedagogical / educational trends and continue to develop as a teacher
  • Ability to teach at HSC levels
  • Ability to differentiate for a diverse group of non-selective students and teach to the strengths of girls.
  • Ability to communicate positively and effectively with students, parents and staff; and in both written and verbal forms
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, and commitment to positive relationships
  • A professional / organised approach with well-developed time management skills
  • Proven ICT skills within an environment where students bring a personal device to school.
  • Ability to foster a positive and inclusive school culture, and contribute to the life of the School
  • A current First Aid / CPR certificate and valid Working with Children (WWC) clearance.
