Nambour State College are welcoming applications for a Head of Department (Secondary) - Junior to join their school community on a temporary full-time basis, from 14 July 2025 until 14 July 2026, unless otherwise determined,

As part of the Positive Education leadership team, this position requires leadership of the school's strategic agenda to engage junior secondary students through age-appropriate teaching and learning through age-appropriate teaching and supportive classroom environments. HOD-JS leads extension and specialist programs.

The position also entails leadership of the Junior Secondary (Year 7 - 9) Year Level Leaders; enhancing transition from primary and building a strong junior secondary identity and voice.

About the Role

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to case manage complex and challenging behaviour using an evidence trauma informed lens.
  • Establishment of a high expectation learning culture through the implementation of systems and processes that ensure all students improve student performance.
  • Lead and innovate a strong and effective transition program through the development of collegial partnerships between the college and local primary schools that result in increased enrolments. Monitoring enrolment patterns.
  • Leadership of the junior secondary cultivators program in line with the College Farm.
  • Coordinate the 7-9 Pinnacle program for high achieving students through the selection, monitoring and implementation of key programs across the college, regular communication with parents and establishment of partnerships across the community.
  • Work closely with primary campus staff, students and parents to support a seamless transition.
  • Communicating achievements by developing social media, website and marketing strategy.
  • Coordination of NAPLAN testing, analysis and implementation of strategies to improve results.
  • Design and implement career pathway programs through JET Planning processes.
  • Development of junior secondary social and emotional skilling program through NSC and coordinate assemblies.
  • Development of a high expectation learning culture across the junior secondary sector.
  • Organisation and management of daily operations for junior secondary.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills that enable the applicant to develop a quick rapport with feeder schools, community and parents
  • Manage new students and families to the Campus in partnership with the Year Level Team.
  • Instructional leadership experience in implementing Teach Like a Champion, PBL systems and Tier 2 programs.
  • Strong knowledge of programs including Compass, QLearn, Adobe Express Videoleap and Canva to enact the social media strategy.
