About Us:

Fortitude Valley State Secondary College is the first school to be opened in the inner city Brisbane in over 50 years. Our school opened in 2020 with 140 Year 7 students and currently has 840 students enrolled in years 7 to 12. Our first Year 12 cohort will graduate this year.

About the Role:

Fortitude Valley State Secondary College is seeking an energetic leader to take on the portfolio of Numeracy and Data Analytics. The brief of the portfolio is to empower a community of numerate learners who draw on data to guide their actions and inquiry, and who solve problems with insight and confidence. It also includes the responsibility for Mathematics and Sport.

As a Head of Department, you will have accountability across a range of curriculum areas and co/extra-curricular activities as well as whole school strategic and/or operational processes. You will have a role in pastoral care for students and line management of staff. Experience in these areas should be clearly articulated in your application. You will be an agile leader with a record of success in providing quality learning outcomes for all students. As an instructional leader, you will be focused on developing students who are problem-solvers with decision-making agility and risk-taking skills who can move into the future with confidence and resilience.

Please note; that the campus does not have on-site parking. Candidates will need to consider options for public transport or paid parking facilities. The area is well-serviced by public bus and rail and the school includes end-of-trip facilities including showers, lockers and bicycle storage.

  • Drive Excellence and Professional Growth: Set and uphold high standards for student achievement and staff performance, while actively engaging in lifelong learning and professional development.
  • Build Strategic Partnerships: Foster meaningful relationships with students, parents, government agencies, and community groups to enhance learning opportunities and school outcomes.
  • Plan Strategically and Manage Resources Effectively: Apply a future-focused and informed approach to leadership by understanding relevant legislation and optimising human, financial, and curriculum resources to achieve departmental goals.
