Head of Athletics

Melbourne Girls Grammar School is seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Athletics to lead a holistic, year-round program that aspires to be one of Australia’s leading school-based athletics programs. This role offers an exciting opportunity to inspire and prepare students for the challenges and rewards of sport through pathways that span fundamental skills (Run / Jump / Throw / Land) to recreational, competitive, and performance levels.

Artemis, our state-of-the-art sports centre, is located in the heart of South Yarra beside the Royal Botanic Gardens—providing an exceptional environment for athletic development and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the MGGS Athletics Program across Track & Field, Cross Country, and Summer Athletics.
• Foster an inclusive, positive, and engaging training environment that prioritises student wellbeing, enjoyment, and long-term participation.
• Oversee program operations, competition planning, and administration within GSV, SSV, AV, and AA frameworks.
• Mentor and manage a team of specialist coaches, ensuring alignment with best practice coaching principles and MGGS values.
• Drive strategic initiatives that prioritise broad participation and engagement, holistic athlete development, and pathways to community and performance opportunities.

About You

• Level 3 or 4 accredited athletics coach with at least 5 years’ experience leading programs.
• Proven success coaching athletes at State, National, or International level.
• Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, negotiate with stakeholders, and resolve conflicts effectively.
• Current Senior First Aid and CPR certification, Victorian Working with Children Check, and Athletics Australia membership.
