Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview is a Catholic boys’ school in the Jesuit tradition. Located on picturesque grounds in Lane Cove, this leading independent school delivers a holistic education for day and boarding students from Years 5 to 12.
We are seeking a teacher who is passionate about supporting and uplifting First Nations students. The First Nations Boarding Tutor plays a vital role in fostering a strong sense of belonging and cultural understanding, guiding students through their learning and study sessions. Working alongside the First Nations, Learning Enrichment, and Boarding teams, this role is dedicated to strengthening academic outcomes and nurturing the personal growth and success of First Nations students, both in the classroom and beyond.
The First Nations Boarding Tutor is possible due to the support of the AIS initiative, The Waratah Project. This has been set up to assist participating schools develop and implement strategies to improve the literacy, numeracy and other academic outcomes of the First Nations students at the College. This is a casual role of 4 hours per week, working in the afternoons and evenings. Some flexibility may be arranged in consultation with the First Nations Coordinator and the Head of Learning Enrichment. The position is available for an immediate start.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate will:
- be passionate about the education of First Nations Students
- have a strong commitment to supporting and empowering First Nations students in their educational journey
- have teaching qualifications, with the ability to provide effective academic and pastoral support
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will:
- ideally be accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to be eligible to teach in NSW
- have excellent communication skills, including both verbal and written d
- demonstrate collaborative practices and a commitment to working as part of a team
- demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to the Mission and Values of the College
- demonstrate passion for walking alongside and supporting First Nations students, grounded in respect for culture, community, and individual learning journeys
- have the ability to build rapport with students, fostering participation and inclusion
- have the skills to coordinate and deliver support that stimulates and engages students of all abilities
- willingness to obtain an Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA) Duty of Care Certificate
