About Carnamah District High School

Carnamah District High School (DHS) offers students a quality education in a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment. The Location and Community

Carnamah is a farming community 300 kilometres north of Perth in the Mid-West region of Western Australia. Carnamah is home to something for everyone, including rich history, museums, many sporting organisations, an art gallery, a gymnasium, Astrotourism, stunning lakes, walk trails and beautiful wildflowers.

The Role

The successful applicant should ideally have a high level of interpersonal skills to enable them to work collaboratively with staff members to meet the needs of students. They will ideally possess knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the ability to support student growth, both academically and socially, within the classroom setting.

The successful applicant will ideally have knowledge of effective strategies to support students, combined with the ability to be highly organised and use initiative. They will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of planned education programs, including managing small groups of students under the direction of the teacher to assist students to reach their full potential through the development of their academic, physical and social skills.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
  2. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
  3. Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
  4. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
  6. Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
