The Role
The Deputy Principal assumes a pivotal role, working closely with the principal and the administrative team to shape the school's identity. Educational leadership is a key responsibility, involving the active development and promotion of the school's values, ethos, and priorities. The Deputy Principal champions a collaborative approach, encouraging not only staff but also volunteers and community members to actively share ownership of the school's vision and goals. This collaborative ethos extends to change management, where the Deputy Principal strategically facilitates the acceptance of change and identifies opportunities for improved service delivery.
The Deputy Principal is instrumental in ensuring the effective operation of the school. This includes the delivery of the School Plan through decision-making, policy development, and the establishment of systems that align with the school's overarching objectives. Additionally, the Deputy Principal provides strategic direction for staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in professional performance. The Deputy Principal also plays a vital role in the daily management of staff and student well-being. The successful applicant should ideally possess a strong knowledge and understanding of explicit instruction and the instructional coaching model to work closely with teachers.
We are excited to announce the opening of our Intensive English Centre (IEC) in 2025 at Atwell PS and are seeking a dedicated and visionary Deputy Principal to lead this initiative. The Deputy Principal will play a pivotal role in the establishment and management of the IEC. This role involves strategic planning, curriculum development, staff management, and community engagement to ensure the successful integration of the IEC into our school community.
Key Responsibilities:
- coordinate the enrolment of students from new families
- raise awareness of the role and functions of the IEC
- contribute to the development and promotion of the IEC
- provide EALD (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) educational leadership in the school and the community
- manage the IEC program
- liaise with the Statewide Services EALD team
- create and maintain partnerships with outside organisations and service providers
- manage the modification of the Western Australian Curriculum in the IEC context to ensure effective language learning support for students
- develop processes to monitor the effectiveness of the IEC program
- manage, in consultation with the principal, the human, financial, and physical resources to meet the educational and organisational objectives of the IEC.
The successful applicant will ideally have strong behaviour management skills, student services and curriculum leadership, and experience implementing school improvement and change management processes. They should lead collaborative teams in the setting and monitoring of a cohesive, connected approach to curriculum and pedagogical development across the school whilst supporting the educational needs of students.
