About Tiwi College and Melville Island
Located at Pickataramoor on Melville Island, Tiwi College is an exciting and dynamic secondary boarding school initiated and governed by the Tiwi people to provide quality education for the young Tiwi. The college caters for holistic learning; helping the young Tiwi become 'work ready'. At Tiwi College, the life skills learned in the Family Group Homes are valued as highly as the academic programs.
Melville Island, part of the Tiwi Islands, lies in the eastern Timor Sea, off the coast of the Northern Territory, Australia. It is west of the Cobourg Peninsula in Arnhem Land and north of Darwin, with a tropical climate. Second only to Tasmania in area, it has a population of just 800 people. As a result, the tropical wilderness and secluded beaches are readily accessible, with most staff enjoying weekend camping and fishing.
