Position Information

The new high school for Leppington and Denham Court has commenced early-stage works on Rickard Road in Leppington. The school will be located in the South Western Sydney growth corridor which has seen an exponential growth of residential housing over the past ten years. The school will primarily serve the communities of Leppington and Denham Court.

Due to the unique and complex nature of opening a new school, the foundation Deputy Principal will be appointed prior to the school opening in Term 4 2026. The new school is expected to be open in 2027, and it is anticipated that the school will initially take enrolments for Year 7 students only. The role will commence in Term 4 and the Deputy Principal will lead and manage all preliminary requirements of establishing a new school, including recruitment of staff, establishing new processes and working collaboratively with , executive , partner primary schools and School Infrastructure.

The new secondary school is designed to serve the exponential growth of local families in the area and will be built in stages. Stage 1 will have capacity for 800 students however the school will be built with core facilities for 2000 students. Projected Year 7 enrolments in 2027 will be 213, which will expand in subsequent years.

The school will be built with 37 general classrooms, 3 support learning classrooms, and specialist learning hubs that will be built using modern methods of construction. The school will have an academically selective school stream.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. A visible and present educational leader who champions effective communication strategies to engage parents, partner schools and the wider community, promoting the NSW public education system. Builds strong P–12 partnerships that support continuity of learning and successful transitions, while strengthening student wellbeing and engagement to ensure improved student outcomes and a connected, thriving school community.
  2. A transformational instructional leader with a highly developed ability to lead whole-school, evidence-informed professional learning that improves teacher practice and drives student progress and achievement within a culture of high expectations. Demonstrates expertise in using data to inform strategic planning, implementation and evaluation, aligned to curriculum, assessment, pedagogy and engagement.
  3. A visionary leader with demonstrated capacity to lead and manage improvement, innovation and change through effective planning, implementation and evaluation. Establishes structures, systems and processes that support the successful foundation and sustained growth of a new school.
  4. Demonstrates authentic, values-driven leadership that builds collective efficacy through strong relational trust. Leads a high-performing culture of excellence, collaboration and wellbeing, creating the conditions for a positive, inclusive and aspirational environment within a new and evolving school context

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Special Notes

The commencement date for this position will be day 1 Term 4 of the 2026 school year.
