Based on the outskirts of the Cardinia Shire on the edge of the South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Lang Lang Primary School is a small semi-rural school. The township of Lang Lang is undergoing significant change with substantial housing developments occurring within the township boundaries. Our current enrolment is 196 students with an SFO of 0.55. We are a proud community school, and our objective is to empower each student by providing an engaging and enriching environment, and our core purpose is to provide quality education in a safe and supportive environment enabling our students to become lifelong learners and active members of our community.

We offer a varied and expert curriculum covering all areas and extension and support to those children who require it. Our staff care about children and their social, emotional and academic growth underpins everything we do. The school offers 4 specialist subjects of PE, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Environmental Science as well as AUSLAN.  

Our School is set in pleasant surroundings which are cared for by our students, families and maintenance staff. The main building comprises of administration, staffroom classrooms, sickbay and library. We have our computer facilities in the classrooms all networked and connected to the Internet. Other rooms include the Art-room, the multipurpose room, which is used for music & OHSC Program, and The Big Shed, which is used for the Perceptual Motor Program and Physical Education. We have extensive grounds comprising of shade and grass areas, wetlands, adventure playgrounds, covered performance area complete with stage, junior play equipment, sports oval, basketball/netball court and sandpits.

Our dedicated team of teaching staff have high expectations for student learning and demonstrate a high level of commitment and professionalism. The school has 1 principal, 1 learning specialist 17 classroom teachers (12.6 FTE) and 8 education support staff (7.2 FTE) supporting students.

Our staff are responsible for the delivery of quality educational programs as they work in teams to plan, teach, evaluate and share their improvement through a staff professional development that keeps teachers abreast of current educational theory and methodology.

Selection Criteria

SC1     Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage the implementation of school priorities, and the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum.

SC2    Demonstrated ability to lead the planning and implementation of high impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs. Demonstrated ability to support teachers to evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.

SC3     Demonstrated exemplary ability to monitor and assess student learning at a class, cohort or whole-school level and use this data to lead improvement initiatives. Demonstrated ability to support others in using data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.

SC4    Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the broader school community focused on student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement.

SC5    Demonstrated ability to model behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values and support colleagues to adopt these behaviours and attitudes. Demonstrated ability to reflect upon their own, others and whole-school practice and contribute to the provision of whole-school professional learning. 

SC 6   Demonstrated high- level knowledge, and exemplary skills to promote and facilitate a tiered approach to inclusive education for all students and to lead and facilitate our Disability Inclusion program 

Role

This role will attract Higher Duties to the equivalent of a Leading Teacher.

Disability Inclusion: The Disability Co-ordinator will lead the school¿s Disability Inclusion program. This includes organising and leading Disability Inclusion Profile meetings, supporting teachers to identify student learning needs and students who may benefit from a profile meeting. They will support the allocation of Disability Inclusion funding to resource evidence based reasonable adjustments, for individual students and cohorts of students, and they will build teacher capability to implement these adjustments.

Responsibilities

The key roles of the Disability Inclusion Co-ordinator may include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement initiatives related to the school strategic plan and school priorities
  • Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and delivery;
  • Leading and managing the provision of professional development and developing individual and team development plans for teaching staff within the priorities of the school;
  • Leading and managing staff performance and development (review of staff);
  • Teaching demonstration lessons;
  • Leading and managing the development of the school's assessment and reporting policies and practices;
  • Leading and managing the implementation of the school operations and policies related to student welfare and discipline;
  • Leading the development of curriculum in a major learning area and participating in curriculum development in other areas;
  • Responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers;
  • Contributing to the overall leadership and management of the school;
  • Contributing to the development of proposals for school council consideration;
  • Developing and managing the school code of conduct.

Who May Apply

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
