Position Information

Holman Place School is a School for Specific Purposes (SSP) catering for students with moderate to severe intellectual disability, autism, physical disability and complex learning and support needs. The school is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students are known, valued and cared for.

The school proudly supports a number of Aboriginal students and is committed to strengthening Aboriginal education, cultural responsiveness and connections with local Aboriginal community members. Holman Place School values Aboriginal histories, cultures and perspectives and seeks to ensure all students develop an understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture within an inclusive and respectful learning environment.

The school is currently focused on strengthening evidence-informed teaching practices through a whole-school approach to explicit teaching, consistent behaviour expectations, communication supports and high-quality learning programs that maximise student engagement and achievement. Staff work collaboratively with families and external agencies to support positive educational, social and wellbeing outcomes for students.

The successful applicants will be highly visible instructional leaders who can build staff capability, lead school improvement initiatives and foster a culture of high expectations for students and staff.

Holman Place School is seeking leaders who are committed to building staff capability, embedding explicit teaching practices, strengthening positive behaviour support systems and creating a culture of consistency, accountability and high expectations for all students. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to collaborative leadership, continuous improvement and ensuring every student can achieve success through high-quality, evidence-informed educational practice, while promoting culturally responsive practices that support Aboriginal students and their families.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

  1. Approval to teach special education and/or demonstrated experience teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disability, autism, physical disability and complex learning and support needs.
  2. Demonstrated instructional leadership skills with the capacity to build teacher and SLSO capability through coaching, mentoring and professional learning, and to lead high-quality teaching and learning programs for students with complex learning and support needs.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of evidence-informed teaching practices, including explicit teaching and High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE), and the capacity to lead the implementation of consistent whole-school instructional practices and school improvement initiatives that improve student engagement, learning outcomes and the diverse strengths and talents of students with disability.
  4. Demonstrated contemporary knowledge and experience in developing and implementing evidence-based communication, wellbeing and behaviour support programs that improve outcomes for students with disability.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

All Department of Education employees working in an SSP are required to be vaccinated as outlined at Vaccination requirements for school sites (nsw.gov.au). The successful candidate for this position will be required to confirm vaccination status prior to the department finalising their appointment and entry on duty.
