Position Information

Jesmond Public School, established in 1887 on Awabakal land, currently serves 202 students. With a FOEI of 141, the school reflects a rich tapestry of cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic diversity, fostering an inclusive climate with high expectations for all. The school comprises nine mainstream classes and a regional support class. Among the student body, 10% identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and 75% speak English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D).

The teaching staff is committed to explicit instruction, differentiation, and embedding Aboriginal perspectives into the curriculum, alongside strong assessment practices and a collaborative approach to ensure continual student improvement. Specialised staff focus on enhancing the achievement and engagement of EAL/D and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, striving to meet school targets in literacy, numeracy, attendance, and wellbeing.

A small yet dedicated Parents and Citizens Association, together with the broader school community, actively promotes an inclusive environment, working collectively to ensure every student experiences growth each year.

Selection Criteria

  1. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with evidence of instructional leadership demonstrating the capacity to support the implementation of high-quality explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy.
  2. Foster and sustain a positive and inclusive school environment to build trusting relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community.
  3. The ability to build a culture of continuous improvement driven by data-informed practice and evidence-based research.
  4. Demonstrated ability to build the capacity of teachers to engage with all relevant stakeholders to personalise adjustments to meet the academic, social, emotional, and behavioural needs of all students, fostering inclusion, positive student wellbeing, and engagement at school.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Special Notes

This is a permanent part-time position of 1 day per week, 0.2FTE (full time equivalent).
