The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP), part of the Tasmanian Government, is Tasmania's leading child-centred agency, established on October 1, 2022, through the merger of the former Department of Education and child and youth services from the Department of Communities Tasmania. Headquartered in Hobart, DECYP delivers integrated services to ensure Tasmanian children and young people are known, safe, well, and learning. Its mission is to provide high-quality public education, child safety, youth justice, and library services, with a focus on vulnerable populations and zero tolerance for violence. The department manages 138 primary schools, 57 high schools, 8 colleges, 12 Child and Family Centres, 46 public libraries, and child welfare and youth justice programs across Tasmania.
