VCE VM Mentor (Fixed Term)

Tenure: 1 Year Fixed Term (With the possibility of ongoing for the right candidate).

FTE: 0.48 – 0.64 (3 to 4 days)

Mount Evelyn Christian School has a part-time position available for a VCE VM Mentor in our Secondary School, commencing 21 January 2026.

The VCE VM Mentor plays a vital role in supporting Year 11 and 12 students undertaking the VCE Vocational Major. This role is designed to provide both academic and personal development support, with a strong emphasis on building positive relationships with young people for the benefit of student learning. The VCEVM Mentor works closely with classroom teachers and the Learning Support team to foster student growth in Personal Development Skills, Work-Related Skills, Literacy, and Numeracy, and is there to assist all students in the class to achieve their learning outcomes.

Required Capabilities and Attributes:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive, respectful relationships with young people.
• Experience working with adolescents, particularly in educational, youth work, or mentoring contexts.
• Understanding of applied learning principles and the unique needs of students in the VCE Vocational Major (VCEVM) pathway.
• Ability to support students in Literacy, Numeracy, Personal Development Skills, and Work-Related Skills, under the guidance of teaching staff.
• Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team including teachers, learning support staff, and wellbeing professionals.
• Organisational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records.
• Commitment to student wellbeing, inclusion, and the development of the whole person.
• Discretion and professionalism, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and follow school policies and procedures.

It is desirable if a have previous experience in a similar Education Support role and be highly motivated. You must have a Working with Children Card and current Police Record Check.

Learning Assistants have a broad role. They undertake a variety of duties which mostly comprise assisting teachers and supporting students in the classroom and other educational activities, and providing attendant care and assistance to students, as required. The position may also include some administrative or clerical tasks, and assistance with resources in a variety of school settings, such as the classroom, library and laboratories.
