Position Information
Otford Public School is a small school of 41 students, with multi-grade classes situated in the Wollongong North Network and the Seacliff Community of Schools. Located close to the Royal National Park, Otford village is surrounded by bushland and near local beaches. The community values the environment deeply and is committed to sustainability and connections to the country.
Established in 1885, the school is greatly valued in the local community, providing flexible learning groups and spaces, rich integrated learning experiences, and a calm environment responsive to the well-being of all students. With a strong focus on Maths, Science, and Creative and Performing Arts, Otford Public School emphasises a comprehensive approach to education. Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Approval to teach infants and/or primary.
- Proven capacity to lead, monitor and review the implementation of the school’s Strategic Improvement Plan, with an evaluative mindset and a focus on evidence informed practices to improve the learning of all students and to build the capability of all staff.
- High-level educational leadership, demonstrating the capacity to manage the dual role of teaching principal with a comprehensive understanding of instructional and collaborative leadership styles, and the unique challenges and opportunities in small school environments, including effective management of multi-age classrooms and the implementation of personalised learning strategies.
- Knowledge, understanding and ability to implement and embed the department’s equity and High potential & gifted education (HPGE) policies and programs, to enhance quality outcomes for all students.
- Demonstrated ability to lead professional learning for staff in effectively integrating digital innovation, explicit teaching, and effective classroom practices into a school-based, student-centred curriculum, ensuring rigorous, engaging, and authentic learning experiences that improve student learning outcomes and prepare them for future challenges.
General Selection Criteria
- High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
- Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
- High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
- Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
- Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
- Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level TP2 for 2024.
