Position Information
Tamworth West Public School is a progressive, innovative, and well-presented school located near the central business district of Tamworth. The current enrolment is 370 students, including 111 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 6 students from a language background other than English. The school caters to a diverse range of student needs, providing a quality education within a creative and nurturing environment. There will be 4 support classes in 2026.
Tamworth West Public School actively supports Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and the Resilience Project, promoting the development of respectful, resilient, and responsible students. The school teaches positive mental health strategies to help students become happier and more resilient.
A strong commitment to Aboriginal education is evident through the continued teaching and learning of the Gamilaraay language. The establishment of a junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) in 2025 further reflects this commitment. The school has a well-earned reputation as an inclusive and caring community where students are engaged and happy.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with diverse learning needs and disabilities such as autism, intellectual disabilities, complex and challenging behaviours including mental health, and physical disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum by developing and implementing personalised learning and support that is culturally responsive, maximises student growth, fosters high expectations and promotes student engagement.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to contribute to the whole school culture and work collaboratively to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, external agencies and members of the wider community.
- Evidence of strong classroom management skills, demonstrated through the implementation of whole-school wellbeing programs focused on creating a positive learning environment and promoting inclusive practices in all school settings.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
