Position Information
Lomandra School, a school for Specific Purposes, supports students, years 5-12, 88 enrolments (Aboriginal student enrolments fluctuate between 15% and 42%), with severe disruptive behaviours and/or complex mental health conditions. The school provides intensive curriculum support as well as addressing the behavioural, social and emotional needs of the students. The school's goal is to deliver, through well-tailored individualised quality learning programs, successful transition to mainstream settings, further education, employment and community life.
Lomandra School has strong links with its local community, feeder schools and community agencies. Lomandra School oversees the Return to School Support Program (Campbelltown Suspension Centre) and the Sherwood Program - an intensive support program for Out of Home Care students. The school oversees regional personnel, including the Support Teacher Transition Team (STT), the Assistant Principal Learning and Support Team and an Out of Home Care teacher (OOHC).
Lomandra School is a complex teaching and learning environment where effective risk management strategies are paramount to the safety and well-being of the students and staff at Lomandra School. We are a school set across four sites. Success in this role will require effective time management, resilience and strong interpersonal skills. Mainstream teachers are encouraged to apply.
Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with Behaviour Difficulties and Emotional Disturbance (Primary and Secondary).
2. Highly developed communication and personal skills that ensure positive interactions with all stakeholders and the community.
3. Passion for working collegially in planning, implementing, and evaluating best practice, maximum engagement programs for students’ complex needs.
4. Emotional Intelligence to be able to work with colleagues, professionals, and paraprofessionals across diverse settings to ensure the best learning opportunities for all students.
5. Understanding of and sensitivity to the educational needs of First Nations students and their families as well as students from low socio-economic communities.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
