Our vision is one of equity and excellence in a progressive, high performing education system that realises the potential of every student. The Queensland Government is committed to reforming the youth justice system to strengthen the prevention, early intervention and rehabilitation responses to youth crime in Queensland and make communities safer.
WYRESH is a co-educational school delivering educational programs to up 76 remanded young people at the Youth Justice operated Wacol Youth Remand Centre located at Wacol. It is intended that young people will only be held on remand at this centre for short periods. The curriculum will focus on individualised literacy and numeracy learning and, through the social development of students utilising restorative practice principles, will aim to prepare students for a successful transition to school, employment or further training.
Our staff are passionate about helping improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of our students, many of whom have had disrupted or negative experiences of schooling and often have lived through complex trauma and disadvantage.
In order to maintain engagement of students across the year, Queensland youth detention centre schools' education delivery model runs over a 48-week school year.
The employment entitlements for staff are the same as other State Schools however this model provides an exciting opportunity to access other flexible work agreements. Through negotiation with the Head of Campus, the successful applicant will determine whether a regular or alternative school holiday model is accessed.
About the role:
Teachers will work collaboratively with the Head of Campus, staff across QETC campuses and key stakeholders from interdepartmental agencies to implement an improvement agenda underpinned by QETC's vision statement of "unlocking learning."
The ideal candidates will have experience in student-centred learning with the ability to fulfil the campus's obligation to close individual skills gaps, develop language, positive behaviours and social skills and create future pathway opportunities.
