About this job
Position Information
Fort Street Public School is a vibrant, inner-city primary school located atop Observatory Hill in Millers Point, Sydney. With an enrolment of 300 students, 86% of whom come from Language Backgrounds Other than English, our school proudly reflects and celebrates the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of its community. Rebuilt and reopened in January 2024, the school features nine innovative Learning Hubs designed to foster collaboration and maximise student growth in literacy and numeracy.
Our school is committed to evidence-based, data-informed teaching through the explicit teaching model, ensuring that all students — particularly those learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) — are supported to connect, thrive and succeed. Fort Street is a welcoming and inclusive community where diversity is valued, relationships are respectful, and students are empowered to take an active role in their learning and wellbeing. Through high expectations, strong family partnerships and a focus on language development, growth and confidence, we prepare our students to become capable, compassionate and globally minded citizens.
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach Infants and Primary (K-6), with demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, evidence-based teaching practices that improve student learning outcomes across diverse ability levels, including the EALD learner and HPGE students.
Demonstrated ability of strong classroom management skills that promote a positive, orderly and inclusive learning environment conducive to student engagement.
Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling clear, professional and timely communication with students, colleagues, parents and community members.
A collaborative and personalised commitment to ongoing professional learning, implementation of the department's policies, and timely reflective practices, with the demonstrated ability to apply new knowledge to enhance teaching effectiveness for every learner.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
