The Role

Balcatta SHS is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated English as Additional Language Dialect (EAL/D) Teacher to join their team.

The successful applicant will ideally have past experience in teaching EAL/D and have a strong understanding of the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and WA curriculum. As the sole school’s EAL/D teacher, you may be responsible for assisting in the implementating EAL/D direction. The successful applicant will ideally have excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate closely with school leadership, teachers and education assistants to ensure teaching and learning adjustments for EAL/D students.

The successful applicant will ideally have the ability to utilise contemporary, evidence-based practices related to EAL/D. Applicants that display strong knowledge and application of EAL/D Progress Map are highly desirable. In additions, as an EAL/D Teacher, you would tailor and facilitate learning support programs to maximise student’s potential and acknowledge individual students’ needs and differences.

To be successful in this role, the ideal applicant should have excellent organisational and time management skills to effectively prioritise and keep accurate records to analyse data to tailor programs to provide support that improve outcomes for all students.

The successful applicant will ideally possess the knowledge and skills in:

  • Supporting the improvement of literacy and numeracy outcomes of students with EAL/D needs through suitable intervention and differentiation strategies.
  • Liaison with external agencies and support to ensure planning for EAL/D students is comprehensive.
  • Managing and ensuring compliance with Census.
  • Compliance with schools’ data recording requirements and processes including SCSA requirements and enrolments.

This position may include a non-teaching component to facilitate and tailor EAL/D programs to meet student’s needs.
