Location Profile
Ripponlea Primary School is located in East St Kilda, only 10 kilometres southeast of Melbourne City Centre. Ripponlea State School 4087 opened on 3 July 1922 and has a proud history of serving families and students with a high-quality education in a safe, friendly, and inclusive school environment.
In 2022, centenary celebrations marked the school's deep connections to the Boon Wurrung (Bunurong) people of the Kulin Nations, past and present school communities, and a commitment to the future. The school established the Koor Indigenous Garden, introduced new House Names (Bemin, Booring, Tunparrim, and Warren), and will begin developing a Reconciliation Action Plan in 2024.
The vision of Ripponlea Primary School is to develop global, creative thinkers who care, create, and connect in an ever-changing world. The school fosters a community where students, staff, and families can learn and support each other, emphasizing values like Community, Creativity, Integrity, Open-mindedness, Resilience, and Respect.
Ripponlea PS empowers students to understand and take responsibility for their learning, aiming for a balanced, personalized approach. They focus on adaptability, collaboration, gratitude, and tolerance to nurture the "whole" child. The school implements the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework and respects students' rights to a safe, inclusive environment, particularly for LGBTIQ+ students.
The school places importance on student voice, agency, and leadership, and fosters a collaborative environment for staff within Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). The curriculum emphasizes literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing, with experiential learning and community connections.
Ripponlea Primary School's small size (279 students in 2024) allows it to offer a personalized, multi-disciplinary education experience with a range of extracurricular activities and community support.
