Job Summary

The Student Wellbeing Officer (SWO) is a key member of our school’s wellbeing and student support team. This role focuses on supporting the social, emotional, and overall wellbeing needs of young people in a trauma-informed, inclusive, and strengths-based way. The SWO will work in partnership with staff, families, and community agencies to help students build resilience, develop pro-social skills, and engage positively with their learning and school community.

This is a dynamic, student-facing role suited to someone passionate about supporting young people in alternative education settings.

The Key responsibilities are:

  1. Student Support - providing check-ins and guidance so that students can return to learning
  2. Wellbeing programs - organising and implementing a variety of wellbeing initiatives
  3. Community partnerships - establishing and maintaining relationships with local agencies, youth services and external providors
  4. Collaboration and administration - working closely with staff teams to share relevant student information and monitoring attendance and wellbeing data records.

We are seeking someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people in education, youth work, social work, or a related field.
  • Can build strong, respectful relationships with students, families, and external partners.
  • Is confident facilitating groups and supporting young people one-on-one.
  • Demonstrates trauma-informed practice, cultural awareness, and inclusive approaches.
  • Is organised, proactive, and collaborative as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understands and follows NSW child protection policies, legislation, and reporting requirements.

Desirable Qualifications / Experience

  • Relevant qualifications in youth work, community services, social sciences, or related field (or working towards).
  • Experience working with adolescents in educational or community settings.
  • Knowledge of local youth, health, and community services.
