Literacy is essential for learning and is linked to academic, social, emotional, economic and health outcomes. An exciting opportunity exists to join the Reading, Literacy, Numeracy and Early Years team to develop resources including the development and facilitation of capability development, that will support schools to implement an evidence-informed approach to reading and literacy across the phases of school.
We are seeking three enthusiastic Education Officers - Special Duties (EOSD) with current P-10 teaching experience, a deep understanding of the Australian Curriculum, expert knowledge and practical experience in evidence informed best practice approaches to the effective teaching and monitoring of reading, and an understanding of the Department’s key literacy monitoring tools.

The successful candidate will be employed at the classification listed on the attached role description under EOSD provisions.
About the Role
As EOSD, Reading and Literacy, you will:
- provide high level strategic advice to senior management and clients that supports the implementation of the Australian Curriculum version 9 and the effective teaching of reading through the Australian Curriculum;
- scope and develop a range of resources to support key reading and literacy initiatives;
- develop, facilitate and deliver capability sessions to teachers, teacher aides, school leaders and key regional personnel across the state as required;
- undertake research, co-design and consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders to inform the development of support materials and resources and ensure alignment to departmental policy;
- contribute to briefing materials, submissions, papers, reports, communications and correspondence;
- develop and undertake projects guided by the Education Strategy Equity and Excellence: Realising the potential of every student; and
- liaise, consult and build positive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal applicant will have the following key attributes:
- A comprehensive understanding of the Department's key reading and literacy initiatives including: the Queensland Reading Commitment, Reading Position statement and P-10 Literacy continuum;
- A deep knowledge of the Australian Curriculum (v8.4 and v9) and contemporary curriculum, assessment and pedagogical practices;
- A deep knowledge and practical experience in evidence informed best practice approaches to the effective teaching and monitoring of reading and literacy;
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and achieve required outcomes within set timeframes;
- Capacity to engage with a wide range of stakeholders; and
- High level written and oral communication skills.

Mandatory Requirements:
- You must be a permanent employee of the department with a substantive teaching or classified officer role employed under Teaching in State Education Award - State 2016, have current full registration as a teacher and should be aware that temporary internal moves for the purposes of the department's payroll processes are referred to as internal secondments.
- Employees' engaged temporarily as Education Officer - Special Duties have a requirement of 36¼ hours per week attendance and arrangements as outlined in clause 7.4 of the Department of Education State School Teachers Certified Agreement 2019.
- When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
