Hume Anglican Grammar is a multi-campus co-educational Anglican Diocesan School offering education from Prep to Year 12 in the Northern growth corridor of Melbourne.

  • Hume has an open enrolment policy so educates children from many faiths and with a diverse range of backgrounds and abilities.
  • The School aspires to develop young people who are kind, creative, inquiring, socially and emotionally at ease, and who strive to achieve their personal best in all their endeavours.
  • In 2025, the School will have 2,960 students and employ some 290 staff - 195 teaching and 95 non-teaching. The student enrolment at each campus is at Mt Ridley 1,448, Donnybrook 1,036 and Kalkallo 476.
  • Ultimately at capacity, Hume will have 3,640 students (Mt Ridley 1,456, Donnybrook 1,596 and Kalkallo 588) with a corresponding cohort of teaching and general staff totalling 350 across its three campuses with plans for further expansion.
  • As one of Victoria’s fastest growing schools, it is expected to be one of the largest non-government schools in the state, with plans for further expansion.

About the role:The School Chaplain will ensure that the caring, supportive and vibrant environment in which children grow and learn is maintained and further developed. They are responsible for providing leadership and guidance in all matters relating to the expression of the Christian faith within the School and the pastoral care of all members of the school community by providing general spiritual, social and emotional comfort and religious education to students and staff.

The School Chaplain has significant responsibility for supporting members of the school community in achieving the school’s purpose, values and strategic goals. They work collaboratively and closely with the members of the student wellbeing staff in matters relating to the development and provision of quality pastoral care programs to enhance student wellbeing and to fulfil the school’s mission and aims.

The School Chaplain has an active and visible presence within the School community. They remain informed in all areas of School life, work effectively with all members of the community, provide pastoral and spiritual care to the School community, and where applicable contribute to decision-making processes within the School.

The School Chaplain ensures the effective and efficient delivery of a contemporary, vibrant and relevant chaplaincy program. They oversee the three critical functions of the School Chaplain for the campus: religious worship, student and staff pastoral care, and spiritual guidance. 

The School Chaplain will inspire, guide and model, excellence to develop a vibrant and caring culture from Prep to Years 12. With knowledge of contemporary wellbeing practices, they will create a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment, whilst promoting the School's philosophy, policies and procedures.

Reporting to the Principal, the School Chaplain is a senior position on campus with the direct responsibility for chaplaincy on their site(s). As such, they play an active role in the development and application of current and future strategies and objectives and the implementation of the School’s Strategic Plan, ‘Shaping our Future’ as it relates to their goals.

This position is full time (1.0 FTE), ongoing and will be based at our Freier campus. This role will commence as soon as possible and the position offers 7 weeks holidays - 6 weeks paid annual leave and 1 weeks leave without pay (averaged).

Requirement for the role:

  • A Priest of the Anglican Communion who meets the Archbishop’s requirements to be licensed in the Diocese of Melbourne and has fulfilled the conditions of the Diocesan Safe Ministry Policy.
  • Qualifications in Theology, Education and Counselling, Social Work or Psychology
  • Experience in the pastoral and/or counselling areas
  • Proven ability as a skilled orator and adept leader of worship
  • Current Working with Children Check

Hume Anglican Grammar is an independent, multi-campus, co-educational and Anglican Diocesan School offering education from Prep to Year 12 in the Northern growth corridor of Melbourne. It has a strong sense of inclusivity and a community-minded focus. We are a progressive school, not just in the development of buildings and grounds, but also in innovative thinking and advancements in our approach to teaching and learning.  This is led by a group of dedicated and expert teachers who practise their craft with skill, and by building the strongest of relationships with our students.  It is not by chance that we have young people who readily display warmth, humour and respect for one another and their teachers.

Since 2011, the School has occupied the Mt Ridley P-12 campus of 10 hectares, this site will ultimately have 1,428 students. In 2019, it opened an 8-hectare second campus in Donnybrook. Currently numbering 840 students, it will ultimately have an enrolment of 1,596 from Prep to Year 12. At Donnybrook, the Secondary school commenced last year so now has 280 Year 7 and 8 students. Each year as additional classes and year levels are added, it will progress to offer Year 12 in 2028.

In 2023, the School opened its third campus in Kalkallo, as a Primary (P-6) school and as feeder to the Mt Ridley and Donnybrook Secondary schools, it will follow a similar growth pattern to Donnybrook with eventually 588 students.

This year, the school has 2,678 students and employs some 270 staff - 185 teaching and 85 non-teaching. Currently, the student enrolment at each campus is at Mt Ridley 1,418, Donnybrook 868 and Kalkallo 392.

The school is on a growth trajectory and in 2025 is projected to increase to 2,912 students (Mt Ridley 1,428, Donnybrook 1,008 & Kalkallo 476) and ultimately have some 3,612 students (Mt Ridley 1,428, Donnybrook 1,596 and Kalkallo 588) with a corresponding cohort of teaching and general staff on its three campuses with plans for further expansion.
