St Patrick’s College, Strathfield is a Catholic school for boys in the Edmund Rice tradition offering a quality education to over 1,600 boys from Years 5 to 12. Through our Co-Curricular Private Instrumental Tuition and Ensemble Programs, we nurture young musicians to discover their talents, build their skills, and develop a lifelong love of performance.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Saxophone and Clarinet Tutor to deliver private tuition from January 2026.

This is an independent contractor position, ideal for an engaging educator who is passionate about supporting students’ musical growth in a dynamic and encouraging school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide inspiring, high-quality tuition to students in Years 5–12 across a range of abilities.
  • Foster a love of music and performance through engaging and student-centred teaching.
  • Prepare students for College concerts, recitals, and other performance opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Co-Curricular Music and other tutors to support ensemble participation and development.
  • Maintain accurate lesson records and communicate student progress to parents and staff.
  • Contribute positively to the ongoing success of the College’s Private Instrumental Program.

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate you satisfy all of the following essential selection criteria:

Essential Criteria

  • A working understanding of, and commitment to the Catholic ethos of a School in the Edmund Rice tradition
  • Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice
  • Tertiary qualifications in Music and/or Education (or working towards).
  • Demonstrated experience teaching woodwind instruments in a school setting.
  • Strong musicianship and effective teaching practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a high-performing team.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and availability to support College concerts and Co-Curricular events outside standard school hours.
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain an Australian Business Number (ABN).
  • Must hold current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in directing or assisting ensembles.

A working understanding of, and a commitment to the Catholic ethos of a school in the Edmund Rice tradition, a valid Working with Children clearance and participation in the co-curricular program, are essential conditions of employment.

Evidence of a valid WWCC clearance will be required prior to employment.
