Job Description
As Principal of OakTree College, you will provide strategic, educational and operational leadership to an independent specialist senior secondary school dedicated to supporting young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds who have disengaged, or are at risk of disengaging, from mainstream education. Reporting directly to the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the College's vision, culture and strategic direction while ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational outcomes.
The Principal is responsible for the overall leadership and day-to-day management of the College, fostering a safe, inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment where students can thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Working closely with staff, families, the Executive Team and external stakeholders, you will drive continuous improvement, promote excellence in teaching and learning, and ensure the College remains fully compliant with all legislative, regulatory and governance requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic leadership and implementing the College Strategic Plan.
- Leading teaching, learning and curriculum delivery, ensuring compliance with VCAA and VRQA requirements.
- Promoting student wellbeing, engagement, attendance and inclusive educational practices.
- Embedding trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches across all aspects of the College.
- Championing a strong child-safe culture and ensuring compliance with the Child Safe Standards and Ministerial Order 1359.
- Leading and developing a high-performing team through effective recruitment, performance management, coaching and professional learning.
- Overseeing school operations, risk management, policy implementation, budgeting and regulatory compliance.
- Building positive relationships with students, families, community organisations, government agencies and industry partners.
- Providing regular reports to the Executive Director/CEO on school performance, compliance, strategic priorities and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Driving a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability and excellence across the College.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educational leader who is passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable young people and who is committed to leading a values-driven organisation with a strong focus on student success, inclusion and educational excellence.
