Position Information

Willans Hill School is located in the city of Wagga Wagga on Wiradjuri country. Willans Hill School has an enrolment of 71 students, including 10% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and 20% of students from a non-English speaking background. The school caters for students with a moderate to severe intellectual disability from Kindergarten to Year 12.

The learning needs of students are identified through personalised learning support plans and implemented through careful and considered collaborative planning with clearly articulated student learning priorities. The school is strongly supported by an engaged and active Parents and Citizens Association as well as the broader community.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of the principal and capacity to initiate and lead learning in a special education setting.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and inspire staff to build a culture of continuous improvement with a focus toward improvement in student learning outcomes.
  • Proven ability to lead collaboration with staff, students, parents and carers and external agencies to assist the wellbeing needs of staff and students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the growth and further development of Aboriginal education and the ability to develop strong links with the wider community, including the multicultural community.

General Selection Criteria

  1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
