The Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Division provides administrative and secretariat services for and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Division provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.

The Curriculum Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate are seeking to recruit a highly motivated, collaborative and committed Principal Consultant – Primary Curriculum and Assessment (Early Childhood) with skills, training and experience in curriculum and assessment design for early childhood, with extensive knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework.

The Role

The Principal Consultant - Primary Curriculum and Assessment is a senior leadership role focused on strengthening the quality, consistency and delivery of curriculum and assessment across the primary years of schooling, including . The role leads the development, review and implementation of curriculum and assessment support materials aligned to the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, and oversees moderation processes to ensure consistent and comparable standards across the State. It requires deep curriculum expertise, a strong understanding of assessment and moderation, and the ability to monitor, evaluate and report on the impact of curriculum initiatives, projects and programs.

The role requires a highly skilled professional who can provide authoritative advice and support at senior levels regarding early childhood education. This includes preparing high-level correspondence and briefings for the Minister, Board, Executive Director and education systems and sectors, contributing to State and national curriculum and assessment discussions, and supporting advisory committees. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives, contract writers and resources, while meeting compliance, timelines and budget requirements.

Strong communication, collaboration and leadership capabilities are essential. The role works closely with schools, regions, professional associations and education systems to build shared understanding and support effective implementation of curriculum and moderation processes. This includes organising and facilitating seminars, school visits and information sessions, and negotiating with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes that support student achievement and system-wide consistency.

  3. Demonstrated substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
  4. Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation.
  5. Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership.
