Home Economics Assistant

We are seeking to establish a pool of Home Economics Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated Home Economics Assistant to support the delivery of educational programs under the direction of teaching staff. This role involves assisting with classroom activities related to cooking, hospitality, and textiles, and contributing to a safe, organised, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities will ideally include:

  • Support teachers in implementing planned educational programs, including individual and small group activities
  • Assist with food preparation, fabric cutting, and food service during practical lessons
  • Ensure safe and hygienic handling and storage of food, materials, and equipment
  • Prepare and maintain learning spaces, equipment, and resources
  • Assist with demonstrations and student activities under teacher supervision
  • Manage classroom and storeroom resources, including inventory tracking and stock monitoring
  • Liaise with staff regarding procurement and purchasing of supplies
  • Work collaboratively with staff to facilitate student-run café
  • Support cleaning and organisation of materials and equipment to maintain safety standards

Requirements will ideally include:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff and students
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Experience in hospitality, textiles, or a related field is desirable
