Position Information

Windsor High School is a comprehensive high school (630 students) located in the Hawkesbury Valley on the land of the Darug people. Students are drawn from Wisemans Ferry in the north to Bligh Park in the south. Enrolment is comprised of approximately 18% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 8% students with a language background other than English. The school has a support unit for students with intellectual disabilities. Over the past eight years the school has focused on establishing highly effective systems and structures in curriculum, student welfare, school organisation and teacher professional learning. The school has a positive learning environment and a culture that focuses on student and teacher learning with the aim of improving outcomes for students leaving school. The school is well supported by an engaged and active P&C. There is a strong partnership with the local AECG and ties to the local Aboriginal community are continuing to develop.

Selection Criteria

  1. Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:
  2. Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience and expertise teaching students with complex needs within a special education or support unit context.
  3. Capacity to establish responsive systems and processes to create an inclusive learning and curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  4. Demonstrated capacity to utilise a flexible approach which motivates a dynamic team of staff to foster transition support for students and connection with programs both within and outside the school community to ensure long term successful outcomes for students.
  5. Demonstrated ability to cater for the individual students with disabilities to maximise student engagement, wellbeing and attendance.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
