Position Information
Homebush Boys High School is a comprehensive boys high school (enrolment 940 students) with a proud tradition of strong academic achievement and excellence in the fields of sport, the creative arts and many extracurricular activities. We are highly multicultural in nature with over 93% of students with a language background other than English. We prioritise inclusive education focusing on maximising student learning outcomes with a continuing commitment to literacy and numeracy. Our school staff is experienced and committed to engaging boys in meaningful learning experiences. The school provides an inclusive and supportive environment that allows each student to develop to their potential. We advocate safety, learning and respect in alignment with the values of the Positive Behaviour for Learning program. We have a Support Unit, consisting of 5 Autism classes and increasing to 7 in 2025. Selection Criteria
- Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Approval to teach special education or experience teaching students with autism, mild intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviours.
- Demonstrated ability and expertise to lead staff within an expanding Support Unit to develop, design and plan for the individualised support, transition, behaviour and health and wellbeing needs of students with specific additional learning needs.
- Highly developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and work as part of a team to build positive relationships and effectively liaise with students, staff, parents/carers, the community and external agencies
- Demonstrated ability to engage and empower staff and students through effective classroom management and teaching practice.
General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
