Position Information
Evans High School, is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school has served the South Blacktown community since 1973. The school caters for over 840 students with 4% of students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and 70% Language Other than English and 28% EAL/D learners. The complexity of our setting includes Y7-12 comprehensive setting, the largest Intensive English Centre with an enrolment of over 300 students, a Support Unit with 4 classes addressing Autism and a Return to School Centre servicing Western Sydney. We provide a broad curriculum, including the full range of academic subjects as well as a number of vocational education pathways to ensure all students have the opportunity to achieve their career pathways.
Our Support Unit, known as the Learning Assistance Faculty, has a strong focus on transition and preparation of students for post-schooling options. Students undertake differentiated patterns of study dependent on their interests and capabilities with many undertaking studies in the mainstream setting. A highly experienced team works closely with families and the wider community to provide students with options and experiences to develop their living skills
Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Approval to teach Special Education and capacity to lead a faculty that effectively meets student needs including students with autism, complex learning needs and/or intellectual disability.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a large and diverse faculty in developing a culture of collaborative professional practice that delivers effective learning environments to enhance student outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships and effective partnerships with students, parents, teachers, support staff, and relevant stakeholders.
- Demonstrated capacity to develop, implement and evaluate quality individualised learning and support programs addressing Life Skills and mainstream patterns of study, transition programs and work readiness.
- Demonstrated capacity to contribute to whole school initiatives and proven ability to work collaboratively with the executive team to meet whole school priorities.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
