Position Information
Callaghan College is a multi-campus college in the urban regional location of Newcastle NSW, on the lands of the Awabakal people. Waratah Campus (Years 7-10), Wallsend Campus (Years 7-10), and Jesmond Senior Campus (Years 11-12) are united as we collaborate to empower all learners from our diverse community. Collectively, we provide the most extensive curriculum in the Hunter including a breadth of opportunities, academic, vocational, and extra-curricular. Callaghan is recognised nationally for its integration of technology to support future-focused learning. Waratah Campus is a comprehensive secondary school. The student population of 865 has been steadily increasing. Our school community is culturally and linguistically diverse. 19% of students have a non-English speaking background, with most requiring some level of EAL/D (English an additional language or dialect) support. 16% of all students identify as having an Aboriginal background. Students participate in a wide range of learning experiences in the pursuit of academic improvement and excellence. The school is committed to continually improving effective classroom practices with staff professional learning being the key to ensuring this.
Selection Criteria
- Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated expertise and ability in designing, implementing, and enhancing administrative systems and processes, including timetable construction, staff organisation, and the management of day to day casuals. Integrating processes with school wide systems such as Edval, Sentral, Canvas and Schoolbytes, to support teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated capacity for highly efficient organisational skills and the ability to priorities workflow to ensure that all processes benefit teaching and learning in a complex school community.
- Proven ability to lead, manage and implement programs and initiatives that support and meet the school’s strategic directions through working collaboratively with the school leadership team.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the demonstrated ability to operate effectively across the school as a highly visible leader through outstanding organisational and high-quality relationship building
General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
