St Mary & St Mina's Coptic Orthodox College is an independent co-educational K–12 Christian school committed to providing high-quality education grounded in the values and teachings of the Coptic Orthodox faith. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of HSIE to lead our dedicated team of teachers and contribute to the continued growth of the HSIE faculty. The successful applicant will be an inspiring educational leader who fosters academic excellence and models a passion for teaching and learning.

About the Role

The Head of HSIE is responsible for the leadership, management, and development of the HSIE faculty, which includes subjects such as History, Geography, Commerce, Business Studies, Legal Studies, Studies of Religion, and Economics.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide instructional leadership that promotes high academic standards and a love of learning.
  • Lead, nurture, and develop a young and enthusiastic team to achieve excellence.
  • Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and reporting within the HSIE faculty.
  • Support and mentor teachers in their professional growth and pedagogical practice.
  • Contribute to whole-school leadership initiatives and college-wide improvement plans.
  • Model a strong commitment to the Christian ethos and Coptic Orthodox values of the College.
  • A demonstrated ability to teach Stage 6 Economics is essential.

The successful candidate will be required to teach Stage 6 Economics classes in addition to fulfilling Head of HSIE leadership duties.

Key Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following criteria in their written response (maximum two pages):

  • Proven experience teaching Stage 6 Economics, with demonstrated student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team of teachers through effective communication, collaboration, and vision.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current NESA syllabuses, curriculum design, and assessment practices across HSIE subjects.
  • Confidence in understanding and applying the NESA ACE Manual and its requirements.
  • Capacity to use data-informed practices to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Commitment to professional learning, staff development, and reflective teaching practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Capacity to uphold and promote the Christian ethos and Coptic Orthodox values of the College in all aspects of school life.

Qualifications

  • A recognised teaching qualification and current NESA accreditation.
  • Minimum Proficient level NESA accreditation is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within an HSIE faculty or related educational setting.
  • Current and valid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC).
