Tagai State College is offering a unique opportunity for an emerging leader to take on the role of Head of Campus - Yorke Island Campus (traditionally known as Masig). Based on Masig Island, you’ll lead a small, culturally rich primary campus, supported by a regional leadership team and specialist curriculum staff.
This temporary position is available for Term 4, 2025, with the possibility of extension.
This is an ideal role for an experienced primary teacher ready to grow their leadership in a remote setting, build strong relationships, instructional expertise, and a commitment to community partnerships.

About the College, Campus and Yorke Island
Yorke Island Campus (Masig) is one of 16 primary campuses that form Tagai State College, which delivers education across 48,000 square kilometres of the Torres Strait. The College also includes a secondary campus and a partnership with TAFE on Thursday Island.
Masig Campus currently enrols approximately 45 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The campus is led by a teaching Head of Campus and supported by 2 teachers, teacher aides, and local staff. English is an additional language for most students. The Head of School, based on Thursday Island, provides direct supervision.
Yorke Island is a coral cay situated in the Eastern area of the central island group in the Torres Strait, measuring 2.7 km long and 800 m wide. Home to around 250 people, the island's traditional language is a local dialect of Kalaw Lagaw Ya.
About the Role
Language and cultural activities are central to the curriculum at Masig Campus. The College is seeking a capable instructional leader to enact and monitor the Explicit Improvement Agenda. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly accomplished — or aspiring — leader to continue their leadership journey in a unique and culturally rich setting.
The role of Head of Campus at Masig is a teaching leadership role. Applicants must demonstrate both the capability to meet the accountabilities of a quality teacher and evidence of leadership experience or capability. Tagai State College provides a high level of support to leaders through a dedicated team of experienced educators.
As the Head of Campus you will:
- Deliver the vision of Education Queensland and Tagai State College
- Improve the educational outcomes of students in the campus
- Lead quality teaching and learning practices across the campus
- Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.
