Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position will be:
- Provide first aid and quality care to staff, students and visitors as required.
- Triage student medical needs effectively and efficiently given the large number of students who attend First Aid this is important
- Ensure first aid supplies are kept replenished.
- Ensure a termly stock take of first aid kits is undertaken on a regular basis.
- Liaising with relevant staff regarding student wellbeing/medical conditions as necessary and provide necessary training/support in relation to ongoing medical needs
- Liaising with parents regarding a students ongoing and immediate medical needs
- Ensure Health support plans are filled in with Student details when new health care needs are identified and handed to the principal.
- Maintain student medications and ensure all administered are recorded on the Department Medical log.
- Entering Injury Report Data on to Compass and notify parent when necessary.
- Support school events: Organising first aid supplies for excursions, camps and whole-school activities.
- Arranging emergency procedures when cases arise.
- Be familiar with and enter reportable incidents onto edusafe plus and notify Principal team and BM of notifiable incidents in accordance with Worksafe.
- Maintain the first aid room in a high standard of hygiene.
- Liaising with the Occupational Health and Safety Officer when appropriate.
- Reviewing and replenish first aid kits located in various locations around the school to ensure all items are within expiration date and are fully stocked.
- All new/future students medical needs/plans are obtained prior to start date.
- Remind parents of current students that their current plan requires a review.
- Developing, maintaining registers for the following requirements:
- Students with anaphylaxis
- Epipen expiry dates (includes student and school EpiPens)
- Staff with mandatory anaphylaxis training
- Staff with first aid training
- Identify and organise First aid training in liaison with Buisness Manager.
- Undertaking relevant professional development as required
- Ensure you keep yourself up to date with department policies/guidelines
- Other duties as allocated by Business Manager and/or Principal
- Act as First Aid Warden during emergency situations and training drills.

Location Profile
Greenhills Primary School, established in 1962, is situated in a quiet residential location between the north-eastern Melbourne suburbs of Greensborough and Diamond Creek, within the municipality of Nillumbik. The location of the school, on a well maintained grassed and treed site provides a geographic and social centre for the community. The current school enrolment is 499 students. It¿s a great place to be!
The school has undergone a series of major works providing our community with modern, spacious and well-resourced teaching facilities, which include classrooms equipped with the latest IT equipment including interactive whiteboards. We also run a 1:1 iPad Program in Years 3 to 6.

Role
This position is for 4 Days per week Monday to Thursday, 4.75hrs per day 10.15am to 3.00pm. One days attendance in the summer holiday period is also required.
An initial two term contract is offered, with the potential to extend.
A current First Aid and CPR certificate must be held (HLTAID011-Minimum & HLTAID009).
The school first aid officer provides first aid to students and staff, manages health records and action plans, maintains first aid supplies, kits and facilities, coordinates staff first-aid training, and handles communication with parents. The position will predominately operate from the First Aid room located in the main reception building, however, may require movement in / around the school grounds.
In addition, the first aid officer fulfils an important customer service function by being one of the first points of contact that the school community may have with the school. It is expected that they will provide a high level of customer service and be competent in the provision of up to date and relevant information operating in a consistent, professional, courteous and efficient manner at all times.
An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
A role at this range may include:
- Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes. Typically, this will involve accountability for a single function, (e.g. ensuring data is properly maintained) or the co-ordination of a work area under the direction of the principal or a manager.
- Assisting teachers, within an educational program, by undertaking specific support tasks or the coordination of the support function.
- Supervised health and wellbeing support tasks, medical intervention support tasks, or other specialised student/teacher support roles (e.g. enrolled nurses performing the role as described in schedule 3). These roles require specific qualifications and/or training, including roles where further training must be undertaken from time to time. The role is for a specific purpose, for which there will be direct accountability as opposed to support roles that are carried out by a range of staff performing routine tasks under direction.
- Technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles that are used to develop and adapt work methods and make judgements where there are clear guidelines and limited options. Routine technical support in libraries, science, and information technology would be typical examples.
An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.
