Education Assistant - Special Needs
This is a 12 month fixed term, part-time (0.6 FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2026 Nyabing Primary School (PS) has a focus on training and retaining dedicated educators and teachers. Supporting new teachers to continue their own professional learning through coaching, learning opportunities and mentoring. Experienced staff are available to provide this support, leading to positive learning outcomes for children. At Nyabing PS, your learning is as important to us as student learning. Nyabing PS is located 320km south east of Perth and is part of the Wheatbelt Education Region. Katanning is the nearest major centre, 60 km west. The school services the families that live within the town of Nyabing and the surrounding grain and livestock farming families. Most of the students travel to school on one of the three bus services that are provided. The school is set in attractive grounds, surrounded by Salmon Gums and natural bushland.

The Role
The successful applicant will assist the teaching staff throughout the school in the delivery of planned education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. They should ideally possess the ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students. They will ideally also provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress.
The successful applicant will ideally possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills which will be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos and priorities across the school community. They should be compassionate and able to work collaboratively to implement documented plans.
The successful applicant should possess the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, students, and teachers. Ideally, they will also have a strong knowledge of a range of evidence-based techniques for learning and behaviour and have some experience or knowledge of disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.

- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
