Education Assistant - Special Needs

We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

North Mandurah Primary School (PS) has a reputation for delivering quality education and pastoral care programs. At North Mandurah PS we offer a diverse teaching and learning program for students in K-6, including a Specialised Learning Program (SLP) for autistic students. The program supports the individual needs of autistic students from K-6.

The Role

Suitable applicants will ideally be empathetic, caring, flexible and use initiative to assist with the modification and maintenance of the learning environment. As an Education Assistant Special Needs (EASN) suitable applicants should ideally possess a high level of interpersonal skills and provide feedback on educational programs. In the role, applicants will support students and classes across a wide range of curriculum areas and year levels within the school. Applicants that have a positive attitude and the ability to anticipate and adapt to change whilst showing initiative and flexibility to produce the best opportunities for students are highly regarded. The suitable applicants will assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs to assist students to reach their full potential through the development of their academic, social, emotional, and physical skills.

Staff within the Specialised Learning Program (SLP) program are committed to ongoing specialised training to ensure they remain informed of current research. Flexibility is highly regarded as the school aims to have staff who can work between both the SLP and mainstream classrooms with students’ integration. The ability to work independently, including at times without direct supervision, is highly regarded. Strong initiative, sound judgment, and the capacity to respond promptly and effectively to challenging behaviours are also highly desirable.

Eligibility

  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

  • A CV of up to three (3) pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position
  • A four (4) page statement addressing the following selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF
    • Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
    • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
    • Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
    • Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
    • Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
