Your Role:
Working collaboratively with school leadership, year-level teams, and specialist staff, the Reading Engagement Coach leads the implementation of research-informed practices that enhance reading engagement, reading stamina, and overall student achievement.
Key Capabilities
- Deep knowledge of early years and primary reading instruction, including the science of reading, engagement strategies, and effective pedagogy.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust, coach colleagues and lead change.
- Ability to analyse data and translate insights into actionable instructional improvements.
- Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive and student-centred practice.
- High-level communication, organisation and collaborative problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Coaching & Teacher Development
- Support teachers in planning, delivering and refining evidence-based reading practices aligned with the Australian Curriculum and QLD Department of Education priorities.
Reading Engagement & School Culture
- Lead initiatives that promote a positive reading culture across the school, including reading events, challenges, celebrations and student voice opportunities.
- Develop strategies to foster student motivation, confidence and enjoyment in reading.
- Support classroom environments that promote reading accessibility, diversity and curiosity.
Data-Informed Practice
- Support teachers to use formative and summative data to monitor student reading progress and identify next steps for instruction.
- Assist in establishing consistent school-wide systems for tracking reading engagement and achievement.
- Work with leadership to analyse trends, highlight strengths and next steps, and evaluate the impact of reading initiatives.
Targeted Support & Intervention
- Collaborate with teachers to identify students requiring additional support, extension or intervention.
- Assist in the selection and implementation of appropriate intervention programs or strategies.
