Parramatta West Public School is a vibrant, growing school community with over 930 students with three inclusive education classes (Mult Categorical). A significant portion of our student body over 90% come from non-English speaking backgrounds, and 82% of these students require varying levels of EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) support. In 2025, the school will be organised into 37 mainstream classes and three inclusive education classes. The Assistant Principal Special Education will establish the routines for the inclusive education classes, teach one of the three classes, lead and supervise the inclusive education class teaching and support staff, and will oversee all aspects of teaching and learning for the students in the three classes. The Assistant Principal Special Education will be a part of the school leadership team along with the Principal, Deputy Principal, Assistant Principals Curriculum and Instruction and four Assistant Principals.

General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism, intellectual disabilities and complex learning and behavioural needs within a support class with demonstrated ability to effectively manage the dual role of Assistant Principal and exemplary special education teacher.
Proven ability to lead and develop evidence-based and evaluative practices to implement high quality differentiated curriculum, including the development of individualised learning programs that maximise student engagement, with a strong focus on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students.
Demonstrated ability as a dynamic member of the executive leadership team, and to lead initiatives that address the whole school strategic directions and nurture positive, quality relationships across the school community.
Evidence of a highly visible, approachable, and collaborative leader with a capacity to build & maintain positive, inclusive, trusting relationships & partnerships with students, families, staff, external agencies & the wider community, inclusive of managing the performance of individuals & teams across a complex setting.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
